Alexander "Greek" Thomson was born on the 9th April 1817, and died 22nd March 1875. He was a Scottish architect known for using new technologies, and building environmentally friendly buildings.

Thomson produced villas, a castle, urbane terraces, commercial warehouses, tenements, and three churches such as: Caledonia Road Free Church, Queen's Park United Presbyterian Church, and St Vincent Street Church. His villas were normally in the Grecian style, leading to his nickname: "Greek" Thomson.
