Where: Ben Challum from between Crianlarich and Tyndrum in central Scotland
Height: 3,362ft, 1,025m

Ben Challum is situated 2 miles west of Crianlarich Village, 2 miles east of Tyndrum Village, 53 miles northwest of Glasgow, next to the A82 road.

This Mountain has little Trail much of the way and Wet Sections so is normaly avoided by Tourist Hikers. You will need Waterproof Boots and Gaitors much of the year.

The image below is of a large Layby for Parking 2 miles west of Crianlarich with the West Highland Way Path just down the road. There is another Layby further down the road as well.

The image below is of the West Highland Way walking route crossing the A82 road. Follow that Trail down to the right there to a Bridge across the River.

West Highland Way

The image below is of the West Highland Way path as it crosses the River Fillan towards Kirkton Farm.

Ben Chalum River Bridge

The image below is of the Trail past Kirkton Farm, up across the Railway, then follows a Fence up over the hills from where you will see Ben Challum Mountain straight out. From the Railway up alongside the Fence has little Trail and can be Soggy, then once over the top, even Soggier sections before getting onto the dry slopes of Ben Cahllum.

If you have been starting to get fed up with Mountains with good Trails to follow, this is a good one to try out Wild Hiking.

Ben Chalum Trail

The Map below shows the route from the Ben Challum car park next to the A82 road. Follow the West Highland Way down and across a wooden bridge, pass Kirkton Farm, pass a scenic cemetery with two trees, cross over the railway line via a level crossing, follow a fence up onto the mountains south summit, then cross over to the north summit. Try and cross at the level crossing, not the railway bridge, as the bridge route is tougher with no trail to follow. Return the same way.

Make sure and take an Ordnance Survey Map and Compass on these hikes, and know how to use them, as in cloud, these mountains can be deadly. In Winter, make sure you have Crampons and an Ice Axe, and know how to use them.
