Cragganmore Distillery History
1863 - the Strathspey Railway opened,
linking Speyside to the rest of the UK,
allowing easy transport of the Whisky.
1869 - Cragganmore Distillery was founded by
John Smith on land leased from Sir George
Macpherson-Grant, with many Grant's being vast
landowners in the Speyside area, with this one
living at Ballindalloch Castle that can
also be visited.
John Smith had been the manager of other
Distilleries in the area such as Macallan,
Glenlivet, and Glenfarclas.
1923 - Cragganmore-Glenlivet Distillery Co
bought the Distillery.
1997 - Cragganmore Distillery became part of
Diagio who now own about 28 Malt Whisky
Distilleries, such as also in this area, Cardhu
and Dallas Dhu, also Knockando and Mortlach but
these do not have Visitor Centres.
Cragganmore Distillery attracts interest as
some of their Stills have Flat Tops.
