The Wailing Widow Falls, or Allt Chranaidh
Waterfall, are in the far northwest of
Scotland, 80 miles northwest of Inverness, 29
miles north of Ullapool, 38 miles south of Durness, next to
the main A894 Road. The road up from Ullapool
is the A837 that joins the A894, 3 miles before
the Falls.
The Falls can be visited all year round free
of charge with a Car Park under half of a mile
to the Falls, and another Car Park about 400
yards south, up the winding hill, for a short
walk to the top of the Falls.
Ardvreck Castle ruin is another
attraction 4 miles south, and Bone Caves 8
miles south.

The lower Car Park has a path up to the
bottom of the Falls that is real rocky all the
way, about half of a mile.
The Falls are about 50 feet high, named
after a Widow who lost her Son after a Fall in
this area.

Falls
The Car Park just uphill allows an easy walk
over to the top of the Falls and Loch Na
Gainmhich.
Be careful at the top of the Falls as there
are high drops all around.
Back at the Car Parks you will see the
amazing looking Sail Gharbh (Quinag) mountain
across the road at 809m / 2654ft. Large Mountain
