The Agnew Monument is on a hill just over
4 miles northwest of Stranraer.
The Agnew Monument was built in 1850 in
memory of Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw Castle,
and MP for Wigtownshire in four successive
parliaments.
The monument is built on the site of an
Iron Age hillfort known as Tor of Craigoch
from 2,500 years back. You can find remains
of the fort around the monument.
The area has great views over Loch Ryan,
Irish Sea and Mull of Galloway. Bushes around
the monument now restrict some views.
