Gullane

Gullane is a Village in the east of central Scotland, 20 miles east of Edinburgh.

Gullane is popular for its three Golf Courses, Old St Andrews Church, and Beach with a large car park on the north side of the Village. There are also a number of other top Golf Courses close by such as Muirfield and Archerfield. The National Museum of Flight is 8 miles southeast.

The image top is of Old St Andrews Church at the west end of the Main Street, next to the Professional Shop for the three Gullane Golf Courses.

The second image is looking east along the Main Street with the Bonnie Badger Hotel and Restaurant mid way along the street.

The Pitch and Putt is at East Links Road, just off the Main Street, with the Mallard Hotel overlooking the Pitch and Putt and Golf Courses.

The Old Clubhouse Restaurant also overlooks the Pitch and Putt.

Gullane Visitors Clubhouse for the number 2 and 3 courses is in the centre of the Town, just off the Main Street, with a large car park.

The Members Clubhouse and for Visitors to the number 1 course is about 200 yards northwest, with the professional shop next to the 1st tee.

Gullane Number One is regarded as one of the top Golf Courses in Scotland.

Gullane History

800s - the first Church was built at Gullane.

1100s - St Andrew's Church was built to replace the earlier Church.

1612 - St Andrews Church was abandoned after Dirleton Church was completed two miles northeast.

1888 - Gullane Parish Church was completed in Gullane.

1854 - Gullane Golf Club was founded with the three courses opened in 1884, 1898 and 1910.

1891 - Muirfield Golf Club was founded on the east side of Gullane.

1892 - Muirfield Golf Club hosted The Open.

Muirfield has since hosted The Open in 1896, 1901, 1906, 1912, 1929, 1935, 1948, 1959, 1966, 1972, 1980, 1987, 1992, 2002, 2013 with winners such as Mickelson, Els, Faldo and Watson.
